Join me as I travel to Houston for the International Quilt Show, where you will be able to see dazzling displays of hundreds of works of quilt art, hangings and wearable art. Visit Galveston and Old Town Springs that must have every Moda fabric printed!!

You may want to take one of the many workshops or lectures that will be on offer from many of the famous names in the quilting world.
Day 1 -Fly to Houston – check into our luxurious hotel where we can unpack and relax for the remainder of the tour. The Westin Hotel is just a few minutes’ drive from the show, yet ideally located in the centre of the world-famous Galleria Mall. There’s never a need to venture outside with the world-class facilities of this multi-level, indoor marketplace. We’ll have convenient access to the Galleria’s variety of restaurants and cafes overlooking the indoor ice-skating rink, as well as over 300 shops and boutiques.
The trip would not be complete without a visit to a ranch so for our first morning our day starts with a visit to George Ranch Historical Park where we will have a guided tour to see a century of Texas history including farm, mansion, cowboy camp and more.
For lunch we will make a visit Katy Mills Outlet Mall and shopping for any designer items that you must have!!
We shall then visit our first Quilt Shop where you will find everything you need from fabric to quilting supplies. Breakfast included.
Day 3 – Old Town Springs – An exciting day awaits us as we travel to Houston, via Old Town Springs – which was an old railway town, it still has many of its original buildings, that now pastel painted shops, restaurants and galleries, where you can buy antiques, clothing, gifts and a Quilt shop that sells every fabric that Moda has ever printed, it is amazing fabric shop one not to miss. You will have time for lunch and to wander around this small town. We will also visit fabric shops.
A fabulous evening awaits us as we attend “Preview Night” at the International Quilt Festival. We’ll enjoy a dazzling display of hundreds of works of quilt art, including prize-winning and collectable quilts, and wearable art. And the shopping is a not-for-quilters-only, international extravaganza! Hundreds of merchant booths offer quilters, crafters, and collectors an opportunity to shop for unique products from the four corners of the world. In addition to the thousands of fabrics and notions, we’ll discover antiques, books, yarn and fibre materials, antique jewellery, ribbons, buttons and trims, sewing notions, wearable art, supplies for needlework, jewellery…and so much more. Breakfast included.
Day 4 – International Quilt Show. – Today you can create your own personalized tour. You can get a taxi, visit the Quilt Show at your own leisure or you may choose to spend some time visiting the dazzling Galleria marketplace, or relax and enjoy our hotel’s amenities that include a pool and spa. (Breakfast)
Day 5 – International Quilt Show -Today once again you’ll have the opportunity to personalize your schedule. Using the convenience of taxis, you may choose to visit the quilt show all day, or part of the day.. Breakfast included.
Day 6 – International Quilt Show – We will have a day at the Quilt Show or you can choose to spend the day how you wish..
Day 7 – International Quilt Show, this is the last day of the show but you are able to spend it how you choose. Perhaps try and find those vendors that you need to buy that must have gadget!! Breakfast included.
Day 8 – Galveston -– We will have the day visiting Galveston, a barrier island 2 miles offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. In the 1970’s they began restoring the Victorian buildings and now the Strand district and the East End are both full of interesting and attractive properties we pick up a local guide and she will take us on an island tour of points of interest, with a visit to the Moody Mansion Museum it has 32 rooms filled with opulent furnishings and heirlooms from one of Texas’s most powerful families. Breakfast & Lunch included.
Day 9 — Today we will trip to Houston Space Centre where the story of America’s manned space flight is told. We will have a tour of the grounds, where we will see Mission Control, Mercury, Gemini and Apollo capsules, spacesuits and equipment and IMAX film of space travel. In 2013 we were lucky enough to see one of the latest astronauts that was going to be going up to the Space Centre, going through his training in the pool and as he had a problem with his suit they had to take him out of the pool, so it was really interesting. Day 10 – Our journey is nearly finished so for our last morning we have a visit to theBayou Bend Mansion and Gardens which is one of Houston’s old stately Homes. We will have a private guided tour of the mansions twenty-eight rooms lavishly decorated with 17th-century textiles that include bed coverings, window hangings, needlework and quilts. We will also see works by legendary artists. It is easy to see why Bayou Bend is one of the premier museums in American painting and decorative arts standing alongside the Metropolitan Museum of Art, for the scope and importance of its holdings. After this visit we do then have to leave for the airport for our flight home.
